godamnittttt I hate it when weeaboos blame their shitty art on the fact that they “used to draw animes” but “now that they’ve stopped they’ve become a lot better”. I am sorry but this probably just means you were a really, really shitty artist to begin with.

also look at this piece of shit I made at school today

THIS IS THE KIND OF CRAP THEY MAKE ME DO AT SCHOOL. Modern art schools suck. At least in the Netherlands… I MEAN COME ON.

ps I was mostly informed that this would happen so I was prepared… but still lol

Anonymous asked: Hello, I happened to notice that you were dutch too! Anon, because I'm somewhat shy haha.. Ik vroeg mij af hoe het is om op de kunstacademie te zitten en hoe dat samen gaat met in een soort van anime stijl te tekenen? S-sorry als ik de verkeerde conclusie trek! I'm sorry to bother you i-if my question is somewhat weird or so, ahh.. Thank you for your attention though!

Ik heb er geen probleem mee om deze vraag te beantwoorden, hoor! Let wel dat ik pas in mijn eerste jaar zit, dus de dingen die ik nu zeg zijn misschien niet al te nuttig. Hier komt tl;dr;

Daarnaast, over wat je nu echt kan leren op kunstacademie… dat hangt helemaal van jezelf af. Maar dat kan Jason Manley op Conceptart veel beter uitleggen dan ik. Punt 2 vind ik hierbij heel erg belangrijk;

2. If you go to a big name school and just do the assignments, you will leave school with very little of value.

Imperfect wor(l)ds

seeclarity:

I think my bottom line is this: The implication that people who put imperfect work into a community that exists because of a shared enthusiasm deserve a passive aggressive skewering of something they made,…

But that’s exactly the thing: It doesn’t even matter if you’re an artist, or a writer, or whatever it is you do to understand where this is coming from.
This conflict isn’t different in any way from, let’s say… We’ll take an art-example:
Realism vs Anime/Cartoony styles.

Do I need to know realism in order to do stylised art well? Yes.

Do I enjoy drawing realism as much as I enjoy drawing stylised things? Not at all.

It’s no different from that. And there are people who will enjoy drawing things that look as real as possible— and they should just go for that and do what they like. But it doesn’t give them a reason to look down onto artists who enjoy making stylised art. You don’t have to like it, but there’s also no reason to be mean because of it. It’s not like an artist is less of a person just because they aren’t as good as you want them to be, or work in the style you’d like them to work in.

We all try just to get maximum enjoyment out of fandom.

I mean, I just make doodles. I rarely make art that I’d consider sending in for something seriously as a “LOOK THIS REPRESENTS MY SKILLS,” I’m lazy. But it’s so much fun to do and not having to worry about it being perfect all the time.

We’re playing around with characters here, we’re not looking for jobs.

sumafu asked: Woah woah woah!! Long time no see! I'm glad that you're still kicking around the internet and producing lovely artwork :). How are you doing?

Sorry about the late reply!! I HAVE NO EXCUSES. But I am also glad to see Panda Kick on Tumblr, too ;_; I’ve missed my dose of megane ossans and cute animals!

I’m currently attending St.Joost, a not particularly good art school AFAIK ;_;

megatenn:

Today is a special day for me~ Exactly 365 days ago I was creating this account!
Much has happened but I can assure you that making this tumblr was the best and the worst decision I made last year. Worst because I lost quite a few hours of sleep and my life gained 40% more procrastination WOOPS
But the best because I met so many amazing people…! Some of whom I stalk admire from afar, some that I wish would come back or post more, some that never fail to make me smile~
Sorry for getting a little sentimental, just wanted you to know that I never expected to meet so many megaten bros here and have so much fun with everyone’s posts!
tldr; I love you guys and I love this fandom :’D
[I wish I had something really great to post today, but dur hurrr no time. So have this rushed drawing of Sera trying her hand at cooking, Heat being Heat, Serph being Serph, Argilla not wanting to eat Jack Frost, Gale not comprehending cakes and uhhh- CIELO’S HAIR IS A PAIN TO DRAW.]
